Less than good…

Andy FrogmanI informed you all a while back that Omni would be delayed due to the project being beyond the capabilities of our programmer Ritterwolf. This has lead to me having to rethink the whole system and start again. This was going well I had all the components I needed for a combined website and forum, and on top of that I was even able to implement a social networking site dynamic into the whole affair, which for all intents and purpose was like UJ having it’s very own Facebook built in.

However last night disaster struck again as I discovered that all of these updates were created using javascript, which I have no knowledge of, and there were no templates for the pages, they were all being generated by the script. This meant that aside from a few colour changes that I could make, what I had was all it was going to be. To say the least I lost my temper, and sent the book containing the design sketches for the new Omniverse scattering across the room. Knowing at that moment, that I had been beaten.

Omniverse being everything that I dreamed it would be is a long way off. The total integration of multiple facets of UJ my be possible in the future, but not this year, and maybe not next year. The only way I’m going to get this done it seems is if I can find someone who is skilled enough in the use of Java or PHP to actually build me a site from scratch that can do all that I want it too, and pay them for the job, that’s a lot of money.

However, there is one consolation prize to all this. In my efforts to build Omniverse in Wordpress I did discover a feature known as Multisite. With this feature I can update and maintain a number of wordpress or comicpress pages from a single log in, and not only that, but if you were to register to the Wordpress Network (by registering to any of the wordpress pages) that log in will actually work across all sites in the network.

So instead of there being a log in for every page, and despite the fact that we can’t currently have a single Omniverse login, we can set it up so that there is one log in for the comics and the other UJ Pages, and a second log in for the forum.

This will also allow people to create their own pages.
